Dr Robert (Bob) Mesibov

Dr Robert (Bob)Mesibov made baskets and other woven or stitched items from bush materials in Tasmania (commercially) from about 1982 to about 1988. This activity overlapped with his work as a professional forester (ending 1986) and research contractor (from 1987). Most of the hundreds of items he produced had his business name "Taskets" on their price tag. Besides the Crafts Tasmania articles (more than one), you can find his work in Ron Edwards' 1987 book "Bushcraft 3", and an early basket of his is in the TMAG collection. Bob  Mesibov sold direct to customers on special orders as well as through the Design Centre in Launceston, Handmark Gallery in Salamanca Place, Saddlers Court Gallery in Richmond, Gallery Z in Zeehan and a shop in Strahan. In 1988 he found a craftsman who could take over the "Taskets" business; he trained him and sold him his stocks of materials. I's understood that he dropped the work not long after.....
