Wicker Wonderlust:

Weaving Workshop with Lola Greeno, Vickie West, and Audrey Frost
Wicker Wonderlust is an interactive exhibition exploring the unique relationship between Tasmanians and wickery. From Indigenous heritage to colonial industry, historical significance to contemporary usage, Wicker Wonderlust aims to explore how baskets and woven wares perform in history and practicality.

As part of Wicker Wonderlust, Design Tasmania will be holding a series of workshops on wickery.
Our first workshop will be held with Aboriginal Elders Lola Greeno, Vickie West, and Audrey Frost. They will be teaching us about some of Tasmania’s plant fibers, as well as some introduced species, that are used in weaving and some basic weaving techniques.

The workshop will run on Saturday 14th April from 11am-2pm, and we will be primarily working with Dodder Vine and Lomandra. You are invited to also join us on Friday the 13th to go out and harvest these materials at the Gorge. Alternatively, if you have materials in your own backyard that you would like a go at working with, you are more than welcome to bring along a small bunch. Red Eye Poker and New Zealand Flax are particularly good materials for weaving.

WHEN: Saturday 14th April, 11am-2pm
WHERE: Design Tasmania
COST: $50
Tea and coffee provided.
